Hoover Dam

While in Vegas visiting my family, my sister Hollie and I drove out to Hoover Dam with her boys (Junior, Adam, and Xavier) the temp was lower than normal this time of year but there was quitea bit of wind! I let the older boys take turns using my Digital Rebel and they really got into it! There is quitea bitof construction going on around the dam so the water levels are VERY low – made for some interesting shots…

I still have tons of pics to still edit from my trip so here’s the Dam…

This picture of the train would have been fabulous if I had been a few feet further to the right (blasted sign) but, I still like it 🙂

This one is a “teaser” for the next group of photos I will post…I had fun here and could have spent more time wandering but, I was quickly running out of memory card space. I have learned my lesson and now that I am shooting RAW, I know I need to invest in larger Compact Flash Cards!

I’m in Love

I was out photographing homes this morning and one of the properties had wall of lovely peonies in several shades of pink – from pale/almost white to a deep “happy” pink. I had a packed morning so I called the agent and asked if he would mind me going back to take pics of the beauties later…he was more than happy to invite me back! So here they are….can you disagree that these are absolutely gorgeous? If I could only have one flower in my garden, this would be it!

I’ll post these and others on Flickr ( ) as well…I’d love to hear what you think!

Viva Las Vegas

Just a quick post again tonight 🙂 The last week of school always seems to be jam packed full of activities and lots of running around. Its a little emotional for me as well – my girls spend the month of June with their dad and it only takes a few days before I am missing them terribly. This will be our last weekend before they go…I am already anticipating the quiet house…

Last month we drove down to Vegas to surprise my mom for Mother’s Day. She was surprised (Jessica and I kept it a secret for just over two weeks) and it was such a nice weekend. It ended up lasting longer than we intended (Ashley & Paige got horribly sunburned and they blistered) so the last two days were spent trying to comfort them and keep the burns cool. Poor Paige was forced wear nothing but her undies and Ashley put the gel ice packs to good use. It gave me extra time enjoy being close to my family again despite the urgency to get back home and back to work.

We drove out to Red Rock Canyon and drove the scenic loop – it was beautiful! I have never been there before when I was younger, our trips to Vegas kept us on The Strip or very close to it! I never realizedhow GREEN the desert can be! We would drive a few feet and I’d stop to get out and take pictures or take in the view. Away from the rush of thecity, it was so serene.

Next time you’re in Vegas, take the 40 minute drive West of  The Strip and drive around. There are a few other places you can check out while you are out there. It will be well worth your time!

Help Team JJ

I am posting a link to my dear friend Amy’s blog for her son JJ. He is in desperate need of a special surgery to correct his Omphalocele and they were just denied medicaid coverage that would have made the surgery possible.

You can also read more about his inceridble journey and read others stories at and then his pagename is jjswearingen. Amy also has a family blog (beautiful family, too)

Please take the time to visit her blog and read about JJ’s brave and amazing journey and then pass on the link to those you know.

I have known Amy as long as I can remember and she is an inspiring woman and an incredible mother. I admire her strength and her faith.

Patience and a Sense of Humor

Oh, the humor life throws at you – at least that’s the attitude I am adopting. It has been several weeks since I last posted, after yet again committing to blogging several times a week. Once again, I am committing this goal and I am putting up a cork board above my desk with my written goals and daily reminders (I am a mom to 3 busy and creative daughters…I NEED reminders) and have determined that blogging in the morning or early afternoon will be best suited to my schedule.

I have a list of new clients…working out details of scheduling shoots and getting very exctied for the Southern Utah Portrait Workshop put on by Eric Hamilton June 11-14. I am thrilled to see how much he is offering at such a phenominal price (working on getting my baby sister to come up and attend with me)

Real Estate tours have picked up quite a bit and I always enjoy meeting new agents and seeing the fantastic work some homeowners do to beautify their homes 🙂 I am working on ideas to more effectively market myself in this industry and intend to display some of my work in that area of photography.

Lots on my plate and I welcome it! I am working so many things with my business, home, kids, and personal life…it can be overwhelming! I am optimistic and remind myself that Iam doing what I love, what I am passionate about and make no apologies for my occassional ramblings 😉

I’m posting a few more pics here but, please visit my Flickr page for more photos.

I am also on Facebook (cindi christensen jones) and Twitter (cindirenee)

Gotta have Faith…

I have come to the conclusion that I “forget” to blog as often as I should because I worry too much about how witty or clever my posts are…I see some pretty funny blogs 🙂  I want my blog to be interesting and engaging but still be true to ME…yes, that’s the little OCD girl in me. I have my thought processes and my vision of what the end result SHOULD be…ahh, reality sets in and guess what…if I don’t post, the readers have nothing to read.

My dear husband has offered to step in to be somewhat of a “secretary” of sorts to keep me focused and on track. You see, I have all these ideas in my head and most days it won’t shut off and I could be going in a million directions with great ideas but so many are nothing more than a sketch or blurb in my “sketchbook” because I have too many to tackle that I overwhlem myself and I move on to another great idea. SO…we sat down and and really dug into the areas I want to focus on and, while it is a process in itself, we are making some progress and have set some serious deadlines. He is cracking the whip when he sees me distracted (easily done) and he is so full of encouragement and support…I love you, Dan!!

I also have to mention and thank my dear friend Brenda for her encouragement as well. We haven’t known each other very long but, she is a very genuine and kind lady. She is the extrovert and I am more the introvert…she told me to break out of my shell so others can see what I have to offer. It was the boost I needed!! She has some great ideas and suggestions – some things I had thought about before and with her support, I see opportunities to grow my business even more. Its been fun chatting with her at sports practices and getting to know her and her beautiful daughters! I am looking forward to taking their pictures as well 🙂

Oh! We FINALLY sang Happy Birthday to Paige and Hailee yesterday…Paige’s birthday was Valentine’s Day but with her birthday weekend at her dad’s and then the flu hanging around our house for more than a month, we never had a day that we were all well. So, it was cheesecake and happy birthday and smiling birthday girls!

Here are some pictures from a few weeks ago…half day trip to Little Sahara. I absolutely love the contrast of the striking blue sky and the warm taupe sand…

I’d rather be…

So, I realized on Friday that I started a blog post about my experience at PhotoCamp Ut and never finished it…this is the story of my life 🙂 I will finish that post but I have four photo jobs that I am editing and must post for my clients first.

After four weeks of kids and husband taking turns being sick, I finally got it. At the last minute, I decided to attend the Provo Meetup in Eureka and I am so happy I did! Shortly after getitng home, the cold/flu hit me. I spent the rest of the night in bed thinking about all the things I needed to get done but had NO energy to even move. I have not posted a single photo – ANYWHERE for almost 2 weeks and I am not happy about that. Last week was a complete blur…

PhotoCamp Ut and the field trip yesterday reminded me again that I’d rather be photographing. I know it sounds corny but, I am going to say it anyway…I was meant to be a photographer. It is my passion. I was NOT meant to be working part-time in an small unorganized doctor’s office. This economy sucks and I am so grateful to have a hard-working husband who supports my passion. So, everyday I tell myself that this is not forever 🙂 There is light at the end of the tunnel and everyday I do something to build my business – no matter how small that something may have to be. I counted the pictures that need to be edited and I stopped at just over 6,000 – its a little too overwhelming to look at the grand total. Baby steps and faith.

I downloaded the free trial of Lightroom 2 (hoping I would win it at PhotoCamp) and have been playing with it so I can get my workflow managed – thanks to Scott Jarvie for his workshop last week! I am looking forward to taking his in-depth class next time – I am always taking photos and Photoshop takes more time than I have to be spending on a lot of my pics. I can already see that LR will be a huge asset as soon as I learn how it all works :p

Now that I have gotten that off my chest…quite a rambling I must say…its back to editing client photos!

My Favorite Girls!

Paige turned 7 on Valentine’s Day and because they were with their dad last weekend, we postponed her birthday celebration until this weekend. When I asked her what she wanted to do…she asked if we could take a road trip up to Antelope Island. We loaded up the Jeep early Saturday morning with a few essentials and we were off. In Sandy it was a beautiful & mild 50 degrees…by the time we got up to Antelope Island it was a chilly 34. We managed to spend about 4 hours exploring before the wind picked up enough to make it a little unbearable.

Watson kiddos

These kids were so fun to shoot…kinda like my own – all three have such different personalities and so stinkin’ cute! I have to admit I am a little jealous of Heather because she did get a red- head child! To get mine, I just look forward to the red hightlights Paige gets in the summer 🙂

This is what I love about photographing kids – you have to be on your toes and be ready for that unexpected expression. Photographing them in their own environment can be exactly what a shoot needs, especially for the younger ones. They are more comfortable in their surroundings and then I can just get in there…then step back…talk and play and then, voila, they sometimes forget I am even there (usually, lol)

Here’s a little teaser from that fun morning…and thanks to Heather for inviting me into her beautiful home 🙂
